2012 A.G.M. County Tipperary Lawn Tennis Club
25/Apr/2012(No Expiry Date)The 2012 A.G.M of County Tipperary Lawn Tennis Club took place on Wednesday, April 25th.

Honorary Secretary Jacinta Coman welcomed everyone and read the minutes of the previous A.G.M.. Chairing her first A.G.M. since taking office in 2011, President Anne Bourke praised and thanked her predecessor in office, Paddy Connery, under whose Presidency immense renovation and restoration of the club was undertaken.

President Bourke thanked members for their support and outlined the many successful events and tournaments which had taken place during the year including highlights such as the Hog Roast and Champagne Luncheon and the Christmas Party.

A Presentation was made to Mary Leahy who retired after 35 years of dedication to the club. The President invited members to share their many fond memories and thoughts of Mary Leahy, and everyone wished her a wonderful retirement. Honorary Treasurer Tom Russell gave the Treasurer's Report.

President Bourke invited ideas for the next tennis season, so no doubt there will be lots of new events coming up during the year for everyone to look forward to.

On Sunday morning a lovely friendly tennis tournament was held involving the under 12 girls of the County and the Limerick Lawn Tennis Club. The girls from each club were mixed into doubles pairs and a round robin style tournament ensued.

Visiting from Limerick Lawn were Georgia Keane, Aoife Richardson, Patrice Hayes, Mary Carey, Sarah Carey, Sophie O'Leary, Hannah Hayes and Danielle Hayes.

The County Players included Galina Kennedy, Sophie Hayes, Lucy Bell, Aideen Carew, Eimear Carew, Irene Flynn, Clodagh Fanning and Saoirse Fanning.

The mammies and daddies of both clubs enjoyed tea and cakes in the Russell Pavillion.

Parents visiting from Limerick Lawn were Margaret Hayes, Mary Richardson, Alan Keane, Margaret O'Leary and Jayne Carey. The event which was jointly initiated by Jacinta Coman of the County, and Margaret Hayes of Limerick Lawn, was hosted by Liz Bell, Caitriona Hayes, Siobhan Carew, Ursula Flynn, David Fanning and Derval Kennedy, along with Niall Carew, Carina Kingston, and Eddie Fitzgerald who popped in to lend a hand and help entertain the visitors.

Thanking the parents of Limerick Lawn Tennis Club for bringing their daughters out to Tipperary, Ursula Flynn of the County said it was a non-competitive tournament with the emphasis on the spirit of fun in tennis. Issuing a return invitation to Limerick Lawn, Margaret O'Leary thanked the parents of the County for their hospitality, and acknowledged the spirit of fun during the tournament which she said was very enjoyable for the children as well as sociable for the adults.

Upcoming events at the County will include a Coffee Morning and Cake Sale in June and the Junior Open Tournament later that month. The Spring League is now in full swing with lots of fun and games every evening during the week. Tea nights will shortly be getting underway, and Pilates under the instruction of Chartered Physiotherapist, Patrice O'Connell, will run until the end of May.
